WFA hands on course Is an immersive class that brings you the experience of realism in a practical learning environment. You will participate in real life seniors after each learning segment. We demonstrate the skills and techniques and you practice, you will develop confidence in your ability to handle basic emergency’s in the outdoors.
Hands-On Practical Portion Instruction: Demonstration: Skill development
Basic Life Support and patient assessment
Dressing wounds, stopping bleeding, and tying tourniquets
Creating splints and assessing for bone breaks
Hypothermia wraps
Improvised neck braces for spinal injuries
Interactive Medical and Realistic Survival Scenarios:
Bears, Mountain Lions, Snakes, Scorpions, and animals specific to certain regions
Lightning and temperature extremes
Flash floods and canyoneering
Altitude illness, Frostbite, Trench Foot, and Environmental Medicine
Anaphylaxis and using an Epi Pen
Drowning rescues
Communicable diseases including Covid in the backcountry
Getting Lost and Rescue Signaling
Finding appropriate water and treating it
Medicolegal topics and liability

WFA Hands on Learning
You and your team will spend 16 hours immersed in situations common in outdoor emergency’s. Practice making decisions in emergency situations that will bring comfort in the event that you are called upon to act.
